A proud record of Scotland's finest fire brigade

"Let Glasgow Flourish" the motto of Scotland's largest city, there is no doubt without the firefighters past & present this great city would have been reduced to ashes on numerous occasions throughout history.

Known in years past as "The Tinderbox City", Glasgow won this unenviable title following a series of major blazes, serveral of which claimed the lives of both civilians and firefighters. Incidents like James Watt Street; Cheapside Street; Kilbirnie Street and others have made their mark not only on the history of Glasgow's firefighters, but on the history of firefighting world-wide.

Following regionalisation in 1975, Glasgow Fire Serivce's responsibilities were taken over by the new, enlarged Strathclyde Fire Brigade.
